The Designer - Dominie Brazzel
California native and stepdaughter to a master printer, Dominie Brazzel understood the commitment to exceptional craftsmanship from an early age. Tempered with a strong work ethic and a love of fashion and cinema that she cultivated with her mother, Dominie embarked on a career in design, where she honed her eye for detail and quality, giving every garment and accessory the white-glove treatment.
Brazzel’s background lies in design and costuming for film and television. She worked her way up through the ranks by sweeping floors, sizing garments, and shining shoes. Dominie earned her stripes in the Costumers Union and the Costume Designers Guild building a 30-year career on episodic productions such as NYPD Blue, Family Law, Temporarily Yours, and Passions, as well as silver-screen blockbusters including Amistad and Titanic.
With the launch of her eponymous collection in 2012, Dominie shook red carpets with her stunning couture handbags, each bearing precious stone embellishments, fine, exotic skins, unparalleled Italian craftsmanship, and names that honor iconic women of style, such as Jackie Kennedy, Princess Diana, and Sophia Loren. Her pieces have been carried by Anjelica Huston, Melissa Leo, Elisha Cuthbert, Sufe Bradshaw, and many more.
From there, Dominie turned her focus to designing versatile, affordable handbags for every outfit, occasion, venue, event, or taste! She had invented an ecosystem of removable, interchangeable satin liners that fit into larger thermoplastic-polyeurathane bags with leather trim, along with their detachible, adjustable accessories. With a bag that can be see-through or opaque in a snap, she thought, travellers could pass through security with ease and efficiency.
Then one fateful day in the August of 2013, her launch of the now-iconic D by Dominie Clear Jelly Collection was met by a miracle of happenstance. The NFL released a regulation making clear bags mandatory for all gameday attendees.
Not only had she showed the clear bag market who’s boss in quality materials and construction, but her limitless possibilities for customization ran circles around the competition.
Over the course of five years, Dominie has had a lucrative licensing deal with the Denver Broncos, multiple live appearances on Home Shopping Network, a permanent place on Oprah Winfrey’s “O-List,” and now her very own flagship boutique in the heart of Valencia, California.
